So I placed my order? What happens now?

Well, here in Wilmington we get a notice from the site.  We open it, print it and the “Shelvation Army” goes to work looking for your books.  We have over 150,000 books on the shelves and since this is an open shop with people coming in and out all the time, things get picked up and moved around a lot.  Once we have located your books wee verify that they still match the description listed with them when they were catalogued.  If everything is still on target your order is wrapped, a delivery confirmation slip is filled out, the books are given a special dose of love for a safe journey and off they go to the post office. 

What if they are not in the condition described when you find them?

Well, that happens from time to time.  This is an open shop, anyone can wander in off the street.  Unfortunately people behave in ways in a retail store that they would never dream of behaving at home.  Unsupervised children (and many adults) can be especially rough on books.  If your book is no longer in the condition described when it was listed we assess the damage, see if repairs can be easily and quickly made and then contact you to let you know the options.  If it is just past salvation we will let you know that and refund your money. 



What about in town delivery?
  Same as above, except no delivery confirmation slip, and no post office.  Someone bundles everything into the back seat of the Book-moblie (read: ‘96 Ford Taurus) and will show up at your door step.  We need you to sign for your books to verify that they came to you. We will make 2 attempts in 2 business days to deliver your books to you and then we will contact you to let you know they are waiting for you at the store.  .  NO PACKAGES WILL BE LEFT WITHOUT A SIGNATURE IN PERSON.  2 attempts will be made to deliver  your items.  Items that are not received by a signer after 2 attempts will be available for In store pickup for 30 days.  All items must be picked up during business hours within 30 days of purchase.  Items not picked up within 30 days of purchase will be considered abandoned and the property of Old Books on Front St.  Again, thank you for your business, we are very, very grateful. 


How long will it take to get to me?

If you selected standard shipping it should arrive in 5- 14 business days from the time of your order.

If you selected Priority Shipping it should arrive in 3-5 business days from the time of your order. 

If you selected Free In-town Delivery your order will be delivered to you within 2 business days of your order.  If no one receives the order you will be contacted to come pick it up in our store.

If you selected In-store pick up, it is available as soon as you receive a confirmation email from us. 

Do you provide order tracking?

We ship all domestic US orders with USPS Delivery Confirmation.  The cost is included in the shipping.  We will send you the Tracking Number in your confirmation email.


Where do you ship to?
We ship to the Domestic United States and Canada at present.

What about  “Free In-Town Delivery”? 

“Free In-Town Delivery”  is available for New Hanover County.  We need for you to sign in person for your books, therefore we will happily deliver to your place of business in New Hanover County.  .  NO PACKAGES WILL BE LEFT WITHOUT A SIGNATURE IN PERSON.  2 attempts will be made to deliver  your items.  Items that are not received by a signer after 2 attempts will be available for In store pickup for 30 days.  All items must be picked up during business hours within 30 days of purchase.  Items not picked up within 30 days of purchase will be considered abandoned and the property of Old Books on Front St.  Again, thank you for your business, we are very, very grateful. 


What shipping service do you use?

We use US Postal Service. 

Can I send an order to someone else?
Of Course! We gift wrap, too! It’s an option in your check out. 
The 'billing' address must be your own, however you can make the 'delivery' address someone else's. Because we email your payment confirmation and receipt it's also a good idea to use your own email address.

What does the gift wrap look like?
Red tissue paper.  Very nice.

Can I include a message?

Sure, just type it in the “special instructions” section.

Returns, Refunds Etc.
We photograph each book before it leaves the store form 6 different angles.  Please be advised that if you return a book complaining about it’s condition, and it does not match the photos we took the day it was shipped, we will not grant your refund.  Please inspect your package as soon as it is received! Especially with Free in town delivery - once you accept the book and sign for it, we will not accept returns due to “not as described.”

In addition, we use USPS tracking for all US mail orders.  The USPS is the final word.  If they tell us the package has been delivered and you claim it hasn’t, you must take it up with your local post office. 

Any returned books must have the original stock number and price in the original handwriting inside to be considered for a return.
